I got the head of a pike from a friend, it is an old one about 100 years old. When people use to catch them they would keep the head and preserve it to show how big it was, then mount them on a wall.
Inside the pikes mouth it has three columns of razor sharp pointy teeth. If you look very carefully you can see a spider which has made it’s home inside the pikes mouth!
The common name is Pike but it’s Latin name is Esox Lucius.
The Pike has mottled green skin and has a sleek body so it can move fast in the water. They feed on other fish and are ambush predators.
They live in fresh water and they like shallow weedy edges of rivers and lakes.
The fish gills and the gill filaments help the fish to absorb oxygen from the water.
